Invisalign Treatments in Leduc
Many of our clients are interested in discussing the potential of using Invisalign® to correct the alignment of their teeth. Many of our clients have heard about Invisalign® aligners but are surprised to hear how much the treatment varies from traditional braces.
Invisalign® is a patented technology which uses clear aligners (custom-fit) trays which fit over the dental arches and encourages the progressive alignment of the teeth.
What is the Process to be Fit for Invisalign®?
If you are interested in investigating whether Invisalign® is right for you, begin by speaking with your orthodontist at your next regular visit. They will begin by taking 3D digital photographs of your teeth, which will be used to simulate the possibilities for improved alignment with Invisalign®. After discussing your candidacy and whether you’d like to proceed, these photographs will be sent to an Invisalign® lab where clear aligners will be custom made to fit over your teeth.
How Do The Aligners Work?
Invisalign® therapy generally involves between 20 and 40 separate sets of aligners. These aligners are intended to move your teeth into preferred placement over a period of time with incremental changes. Each successive liner must be worn in the proper order in order to allow this progressive change to occur effectively across your dental arches. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately two weeks before being replaced by a new set of aligners. You will see changes in your teeth occurring over time, usually with less discomfort associated with the inflammation caused by these incremental adjustments.
How Does Invisalign Impact Your Lifestyle?
Invisalign® aligners are practically invisible making this an ideal solution for adult professionals who want to correct their bite but do not like the aesthetic offered by traditional braces. It is important, however, to understand the risks associated with wearing Invisalign® aligners without proper care. Since Invisalign® aligners are worn closely over the teeth, it is important that the teeth are kept exceptionally clean at all times. This means removing the aligners for eating and drinking anything other than water and brushing the teeth well before replacing the aligners. Without proper brushing and flossing, the aligners can trap plaque bacteria against the teeth and gums and promote tooth decay or gum disease. Invisalign® aligners are so transparent that they are easily lost if care is not taken to ensure that they are replaced after removing them during meals. For this reason, Invisalign® aligners are less appropriate for children and adolescents for whom this regimen is too rigorous.
Other Benefits of Invisalign
Many Invisalign® users report an improvement in their overall health during the course of treatment. This is due to the mouth being cleaned after each meal and the added effect of many users choosing not to snack between meals – because it’s too much work! Similarly, Invisalign® users report choosing to drink more water and fewer sweetened or caffeinated drinks. The result is a mouth that is free from the effects of acid exposure and plaque bacteria. Risk of developing tooth decay or gingivitis decreases, and your overall health may improve with increased water intake and fewer snack-foods.

Is Invisalign Comfortable?
Traditional braces often irritate the tissues of the cheek and tongue. Brackets can rub, so patients often use dental wax to provide some relief from the continuous pressure on irritated tissues. Invisalign® aligners have a thin profile designed to fit comfortably over your teeth. Their lack of brackets means your cheeks should not be irritated by your aligners. Although some discomfort during the adjustment period after changing to your next set of aligners is possible, the pain should be effectively managed with an over the counter pain reliever if required and should resolve completely after a day or two.
Why Is It Beneficial To Straighten Teeth?
We love your smile, we think it’s beautiful on you – but there are other reasons to desire straight teeth than appearance alone. The truth is, the quality of your bite alignment can drastically impact the ease with which you can effectively clean each tooth. Since gum tissue around crooked teeth offers lots of hiding places for bacteria, it can be difficult to remove all signs of plaque.
If your teeth aren’t in line, they are not effectively distributing bite forces across the jaw line. This means some teeth are getting more exposure to wear than others. Finally, teeth that are out of alignment are more at risk of damage, since they are not as effectively supported by their adjacents.
Invisalign® Aligners
Invisalign® aligners are the newest form of orthodontic technology which allows the teeth to be relined without the use of traditional metal braces. Due to the need for impeccable oral hygiene throughout this therapy as well as the nature of the clear aligners being easily lost, this is not a suitable option for younger children. Invisalign can be an ideal solution for adolescents or adults who are interested in changing the alignment of their teeth, improving their smile and doing it without the aesthetic of metal braces and brackets. Invisalign® aligners are used in customized succession and are worn over the entirety of the dental arches. These aligners are nearly invisible and are worn day and night with the exception of during meal times or when brushing and flossing the teeth.
